November 27, 2024

Rarimo has raised $2.5 million in a Vision Round, aimed at driving its mission of establishing decentralization as a core component of digital identity systems. This exclusive round included participation from prominent blockchain leaders, including Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, and founders from Celestia, Gnosis, RiscZero, Aleo, and other blockchain projects.

Vitalik Buterin’s involvement underscores the importance of decentralized infrastructure to the Web3 ecosystem. As a player in the blockchain innovation, Buterin’s support aligns with Rarimo’s objective to strengthen privacy and user ownership through zero-knowledge (ZK) technology. His participation reflects a shared vision for resilient and censorship-resistant digital systems.

Rarimo’s platform leverages ZK technology to offer decentralized identity solutions, enabling users to manage their identity securely without reliance on centralized intermediaries. One prominent application, Freedom Tool, was used by Russian dissidents in 2023 to conduct surveillance-free, censorship-resistant voting, illustrating the practical benefits of Rarimo’s approach to digital identity.

The funding round also supports Rarimo’s upcoming transition to a roll-up on Ethereum in Q1 2025, aimed at making its ZK identity registries more accessible for developers and users. Current tools include RariMe, a self-custody identity wallet that allows users to store passport data and generate zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) for verifying attributes such as age and citizenship.

Beyond voting, Rarimo’s platform supports the development of decentralized social graphs. These privacy-centric solutions have enabled teams to build social media applications that prioritize user autonomy and data protection.
