Seismic has secured $7 million in funding to advance its encryption-focused Layer 1 blockchain. The investment round was led by Andreessen Horowitz’s A16z Crypto, with participation from Polychain Capital, Alliance, DAO5, NGC Ventures, and 1kx. The company plans to use the capital to accelerate platform development ahead of its mainnet launch, expected by the end of the year. A testnet rollout for developers is scheduled to take place in the coming month.
Founder Lyron Co Ting Keh stated that Seismic’s objective is to integrate encryption as a foundational component of the blockchain rather than applying it as an added feature. He noted that after engaging with application developers, it became evident that existing Layer 1 networks impose constraints on projects requiring data privacy. The company aims to address two key industry challenges: forced transparency and scalability limitations.
Despite the crowded Layer 1 blockchain sector, Seismic is positioning itself to offer solutions tailored to specific use cases, including investment applications designed for long-term positions and financial tools incorporating social features. The upcoming testnet will provide developers with an early opportunity to evaluate the platform’s capabilities ahead of its mainnet debut.
