Tokyo-based Web3 gaming company Mint Town has raised $5 million in a funding round led by X&KSK I, LPS, a fund managed by X&Management Japan G.K. Several private investors also contributed to the round, increasing the company’s total funding to approximately $13 million. The investment will support the expansion of Captain Tsubasa -RIVALS-, a blockchain-powered game based on the Captain Tsubasa franchise, as well as the broader adoption of Mint Town’s proprietary token, $JOHN. The company is also preparing for a planned token listing in the second quarter of 2025.
Since its launch in early 2023, Captain Tsubasa -RIVALS- has established a presence in the Web3 gaming space. The release of a Telegram Mini App version in September 2024 accelerated its growth, with over eight million users joining within three months. A subsequent launch on LINE Mini Dapps in January 2025 added 1.4 million users in less than a month. The game is co-developed with BLOCKSMITH&Co., an affiliate of KLab Inc., a company with experience in mobile gaming and blockchain applications. It was also selected as a launch title on LINE Dapp Portal and joined Binance’s BNB Chain acceleration program in September 2024, positioning it for further development and market visibility.
The funding round was led by X&KSK, a venture capital firm co-founded by former professional footballer Keisuke Honda. The firm focuses on emerging technologies and digital entertainment investments. Through this funding, Mint Town plans to scale its operations and increase engagement within its Web3 gaming ecosystem.
